Jim, my guess is that INTC will spend less than what they spend in 1997. They have pushed out 2 fabs out of 1998....that's got to add up to over $1 Billion in semi tools. Plus their huge expansion last year placed them in a position of "enough capacity to meet the needs thru Q1".....no doubt that they will upgrade their fabs....but that is a slower process and involves less $$$$.

The ideal situation would be if INTC was spending money to expand and upgrade.....the big question is...will they cut back expansion and so far it looks like they are...how much????? we will find out soon.
