sonny, TBR target is 144. currently 115. trading at 9pe

Given that the privatization of Telebras is just around the corner, beginning with long-distance firm Embratel,
analysts have never been more bullish on the company's long-term fundamentals. As a result, they view the stock's recent weakness as an opportunity to buy TBR assets at a
compelling discount. According to some of the biggest names on the Street, TBR shares will soar over the next year. For example, CS First Boston has a target price of $160; J.P.
Morgan's target is $170, and Morgan Stanley sees upside of 42%, based on its target of $180 a share.

Brazil to pick advisers on Telebras sale by Feb

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Brazil's National Development Bank (BNDES) said it expected to select advisers on the privatization of the (TEL_p.SA)(NYSE:TBR - news)
telecommunications system by mid-February.

''We expect to choose the advisers by mid-February, before the Carnival break,'' said a spokeswoman for the bank, which oversees the Brazilian privatization process.

BNDES on Monday received proposals from consultants interested in providing advice on the sale of Telebras, owned by the federal government.

Only one consortium, led by Arthur D. Little Ltda, presented a proposal for the so-called ''A'' service, which involves an economic and financial evaluation of the company, the bank said in
a statement.

Four groups presented bids for the ''B'' Service, involving an economic and financial evaluation and developing a model for the sale. They were:

-- Consortium Nova Telebras, led by Brazilian investment bank Banco Garantia;

-- Consortium Telebrasil 2000, led by local investment bank Banco Fonte Cindam;

-- Consortium Brasilcom, led by Salomon Brothers;

-- Consortium Telebrasil, led by Metal Data Engenharia e Representacoes Ltda.

The federal government plans to privatize the entire Telebras system by the middle of 1998.

Hi Eliz, I sold my oil drillers also when they started to look tired. But when they dropped again and got a lot of new upgrades, I think it was time to buy them again. I have not so far. When GLM hits 26 I will look at it again. Some of the deep ocean drillers can be bought now. I will see if this market is more than a bounce and then will go for new purchases again. I think T has to be looked at on the weary side if the baby bells get the ok to go into long distance, meaning if the Judge's decision holds up.
