No one yet can compete against NCR on large-scale dw apps. It will focus even more on software and services going forward. Informix has a somewhat competive dw product, but its services fall way short. Oracle and IBM can hold par or even do better on services, but short on products. Sybase should get out of database, not just dw, for the sake of its shareholders. NCR's weakness is its high costs of servers, but if that can be addressed in the short term by farming out manufacturing as recently announced and in the long term by getting out of the server business altogether, it will be a very competitive company in dw and services. People at NCR have been warning me to watch out for a year now for their actions.

NCR now up 3/4, so I guess the Sybase news didn't hurt them. Sure hope NCR takes off this year.
