How about a major hit by an ex terrestrial body? I am not talking about a boom hit by a smaller body but rather , how about a merge with a major body slowly approaching and being caught by the gravity of Earth and eventually merging with Earth while sinking down in the Ocean?

I have a specific reason for suggesting this one. And, BTW, no doubt a lot of kinetic energy would be released as heat if so were the case.

Not my theory, just referring to somebody else, totally for reasons like being too little from a small country, who wrote a book about it and included a load of computations to go, but has thus always remained unrecognized.
He believed - we are talking about 1970 or so, that in 2 events Earth were merged with each a rather large unit from outer space back "aro 75million and before that 200 million years ago". An interesting idea. Also would explain how the continents fit together if extra mass were dropped down in between them later.

Again, don't shoot me, not my theory.

Just an interesting idea and a very interesting book, all in Danish.
Have a copy if interested. Never translated as far as I know, but running it through an on-line translator should do.
