Cheryl, Happy New Year. I emailed Scott Liolios this AM regarding upcoming EPRI
Y2k conference in Atlanta asking whether TAVA will be there as they were in September of 1997.
Am waiting for a response. While finding the info about the Jan28-29 meeting in ATlanta,
I ran across the Summary from the Sept meeting which included attendees from over 50 Utilities, govt reg Com.,
and TAVA and selected other providers. I sent the URL to Scott and thought that if TAVA were
attending then this should be announced along with the following summary;

Summary of EPRI Y2K Workshop

165 people representing over 50 domestic utilities, four
international utilities, the NRC, three competitive power
producers, one major oil company, three paper companies, one
newspaper, two major I&C system providers, and six consulting
organizations attended.

The Y2K problem is very real and the embedded systems
portion has received relatively little attention compared with the
software problems.

Billions of dollars are potentially at risk for both our customers
and their customers.

The problem is pervasive through out our industry, the industries
we serve and those which serve us.

The problems are very complex, system and application specific,
and not amenable to a single "silver-bullet" solution.

The clock is ticking relentlessly and the sense of urgency among
our customers is intense.

Because of the uniqueness of this problem and the rapid pace of
evolution of the problems and methods of dealing with those
problems, the time value of information is measured in days and
weeks rather than months and years, e.g. the best possible
information has little value if delivered too late in the work flow.

The problems represent a common threat to the entire electricity
enterprise requiring cooperation to provide industry-wide Y2K
compliance and at the same time requires collaboration to
achieve the most effective use of industry resources.

Despite the industry's best attempts, there will probably still be
problems that will not be resolved necessitating some degree of
emergency/disaster planning.

EPRI is optimally positioned to supply extremely high value
organization and logistical support to this industry effort. EPRI's
participation is needed, expected and will be supported by the
industry.
Possible Next Steps

Synthesize workshop results and release preliminary workshop
summary
10/17/97

Coordinate website activities
11/14/97

Hold initial follow-on workshops
12/5/97
subject to EPRI senior management approval

URL for this summary and EPRI site is epri.com

Scott needs to make the investing community aware of the industry's take on the problem and then
work towards distinguishing TAVA as an industry SPECIALIST. Stephen
