George: I have been very interested in C3 Corp. (CTHR). For those unfamiliar with the company, they are an offshoot of Cree Research. The company produces single crystal SiC gems. The stones have a hardness second only to diamond and light characteristics nearly identical. In repeated tests with professional gemnologists, 93% of those surveyed could not distinguish the SiC (moissanite) gems from the natural diamond. Only a proprietary instrument developed by the company can do this reliably. Conventional instruments can not tell the difference. C3 uses a patented technology to produce the gems which are very difficult to make in the size and quality needed for gemstones by other than the company's technology. The company will begin marketing unmounted stones to jewelry manufacturers this quarter.
What impact do you anticipate this may have on the natural diamond industry? What potential do you imagine such a product might have to create a market for these stones which will sell for about $500/carat for stones which look to professional jewelers like the best available natural diamonds?

George,

Technical Analysis Update - Jan 3/98

Aber

Looking strong. OBV and RSI are rising. Pierced its 50 day SMA and closed strongly at a daily high on Jan. 2. Appears to be under accumulation. An increase in volume would reinforce the present trend.

Botswana Diamonds

Looking strong. RSI is getting high and I would expect a "hold pattern" here or a little profit taking.

Caldera

Nothing exciting ..... still very early for this one - awaiting some results from Lakefield and from the DD for it prospective JV. Some early results did yield diamonds in the drill cores.

Canaova

Looking strong. Looks to me there were a couple of crosses done yesterday and the day before .... can anybody confirm this for me.

Kalahari

Pierced through its 13 day SMA. Also looks there were some crosses done within last week.

Mountain Province

Pierced through its 13 day SMA and closed at a high ... bullish sign. RSI continues up. IMO there is definitely interest here.

Nora Explorations

Nothing exciting at present.

Platinova

Pierced the 50 day SMA on Jan 2 .... bullish sign. OBV and RSI remain good.

Rex Diamonds

Closed slightly below its 13 days SMA .... we will watch to see if it can bounce back. Looks to me, that if one were inclined to start to build a position in this one, this would be a good place to start. The Bollinger bands have tightened up and this suggest a narrowing of the trading range. A move above the 13 day SMA on good volume would be bullish.

Rupert Resources

Continues to be very bullish. Closed above it upper Bollinger band and has been above its 50 day SMA for some time now. Continues to be bullish. Volume is quite good, indicating interest in the stock.

Southernera

Looking strong .... continues to trade above its 50 day SMA and moving higher. OBV and volume are good. Looks positive.

Winspear

OBV is good. RSI is getting quite high .... Trading range widened Jan 2, suggesting some profit taking. Trending very nicely ..... it could very well continue this trend without much resistance until it get to the 1.40 area. IMO looks very good .... certainly appears to be under accumulation.

General Comment

Most of these diamond plays are (IMHO) looking quite bullish ...... most are trending up and appear to be under accumulation ..... IF this trend continues, we could have a nice series of potential profit makers here. My only concern is that diamonds (for some strange reason) seem to have trended down with the golds - what they have to do with each other is beyond me. Granted, there has been some weakness in the diamond sector over the last several months, and this may have been part of the reason also. BUT ... I also sense the diamond-gold coupling that we have seen may be ending ... IMHO even if gold trends down, we could very well see a de-coupling of gold and diamonds. Should gold become more bullish, I believe this will spillover into the diamond sector and that could only benefit us.
