Janice&#151you won't see the (&)(#)xx combination take effect until after you submit the post. ALT-XXX should work in the same manner as (&)(#)XXX; the latter comes from my HTML upbringing. I haven't the faintest clue about your dashes. Perhaps all of them broke when your power supply blew up last year. <g> However, if you can see my em-dashes on your screen then some pilot error may be involved. Do you see &#145&#151&#146 as appearing to be longer than this hyphen: - ? About editing: regardless of which method you use ((&)(#)XXX, ALT-XXX), you will need to re-enter the key sequence each time you edit a submitted post. -MrB
