Agree with your glacier scenario. I don't know about the professional jurists. I have had mixed reports on juries. My wife had a trial (a ridiculous malpractice action where they went after everyone), and she was very impressed with the quality of the jury. I have also heard that old saw about fearing to put your fate in the hands of a bunch of people who were too dumb to get off jury duty.

The current fad with having psychologists participate in jury selection is too much like stacking the deck, in my view. Sometimes I think a jury (or perhaps our government) would be best made up of the first x-number of people you encounter at the mall.
