my only advice for now: get a K6 notebook. They MORE powerful than a Pentium MMX, only exception being MMX. Brandname is not so important, but I like the Micron Electronic (MUEI). They are cheap and usually offer great value. Most important is the chipset. For notebooks, the Intel TX notebook chipset is fastest since it supports SDRAM & EDO-RAM. Look for this in a component list...

You are right HWP will have a foot in the door with the Merced. However, the ccNUMA asynchronous coupling of Pentium Pros goes head on against it. Anyway, HWP is much better off than SUNW or SGI, at least IMHO.
