I don't think I'm confusing anything. Steven Pinker in his recent book:" the nature of our better angels"argues that this is the most peaceful time in the history of mankind.

This humanity that we are witnessing comes from an intellectual understanding. It comes from an intellectual understanding that slavery is bad, segregation is bad, misogyny is bad bigotry is bad. We didn't understand those things 200 years ago.

What is going on in my opinion is the increasing command of the newly formed existential mind over the primitive evolutionary nomadic mind. And it is the success of the modern mind that allows the moral arrow to move forward like it has

You are confusing the superficial trappings of a modern society with with how people actually feel. Left to their own devices the Jews and Muslims would kill each other to the last man. Same for India and Pakistan. A Tsar from 500 years ago would recognize the Russia of today. Tribal rulers from 500 years ago would recognize the tribal societies in Africa today.

One thing that has changed is that we now have the ability to wipe out the entire planet in a heartbeat. Now that's amazing progress.
