Zeev,

So I heard about your sabbatical. Welcome back. I have to confess that currency exchange is still a bit of a mystery to me though it has consumed a large share of my reading time of late. The local rub is that the Ringiit will hit as low as 4 to the dollar. There is a lot of talk about some more bad news coming. I have to believe that it will relate to banks. Malaysia has been slow in my opinion on the transparency side. Not too surprising inasmuch as too much transparency will be a big political embarrasment for one of the more vocal demagogues in the region. Its coming nevertheless.

Its amazing what false pride can do to a man and a country. This whole notion of "Asian values" and "face" makes me shudder. For one thing, if the values of East and West are so different then how can we expect to have a world market? And I hate to think where I would be if some cultural imperative forced me througout my life to be primarily motivated to cover up my mistakes instead of face them and invite constructive criticism.

Best,
Stitch
