The U.S. Social Security Administration faces Year 2000 computer problems
that could threaten its ability to provide assistance to millions of people,
according to a report released.

"Unless timely corrective action is taken, the (SSA), like other federal
agencies, could face critical computer system failures at the turn of the
century ...," wrote Joel Willemssen, the General Accounting Office director of
information resources management, in a report reviewing SSA's readiness for
computer conversions to The Year 2000.
