The Abbot compound is interesting and they were talking about it on CNBC. Seems like a possible breakthrough and it is actually in safety trials in human beings in Europe. As far as addiction goes it is an interesting question. They said "lacks the serious side effects of morphine and one would think they checked the rats for signs of addiction (since addiction is a common side effect) but who knows. 200 X as powerful as morphine without serious side effects is pretty difficult to imagine and of course the human nervous system is a lot more complex than that of rodents, but if (and a big IF) it lives up to its promise, it will completely revolutionize pain treatment.
