Janice:

The rule about the apostrophe with proper names is best and most succinctly covered in that tiny book of treasures, Strunk and White: The Elements of Style. They start off their book with plurals and state simply, "Form the possessive singular of nouns by adding 's. They add, "Follow this rule whatever the final consonant."
Charles's friend
Burns's poems
the witch's malice

The only exceptions are ancient proper names in -es (Moses) and -is Isis), and also the possessive Jesus' (without an added s).
