James, I do not like a LARGER spread in the stock as that's when the action tells the MMs to be wary, and therefore they widen their spreads. . When the action is more liquid and there is a good balance of buying and selling, the spread will tighten as the MMs are turning over inventory more quickly. . IMO, You should look at your figures again to see what the trading VOLUME was before, during and after those occurances, to see any correlations. . You'd also want to look at the On-Balance volume, or in the case of the info you probably have, look at the daily tick UP or DOWN during that period looked at. . Colin
