Surely you wrote that just to create a sensation! I guess I should study the whole thread to make sure--I've only been here about fifteen minutes. But we do want to be sure to use the le mot juste. Ha ha.

Also, remember that "Sahara" in itself means "the desert."

hoi polloi is already plural. Also hoi is the definite article, (it's pronounced "ee polyee" in modern Greek), so saying "the hoi polloi" is redundant. Sort of like saying "We're going to the La Marmite restaurant".
