Actually, (based on my reading of WSJ) MSFT bought HotMail not only for the e-mail clientele, but also for the visionary plan that HotMail has for a variety of new ideas (undisclosed yet) that they will execute soon.

Maybe Microsoft can use Hotmail's architecture to finally fix Exchange.
