11/4/16 Contest update
TGIF! Both for today’s biotech rally and because it’s the final Friday before our torturous presidential election is thankfully over. Let’s hope it’s over when it’s over!
Meanwhile, despite Friday’s rally, the week was still a lousy one for biotechs. At Friday’s close, reflecting the damage to TRIL (held in 12 Contest portfolios), the Contest median was down -35.01% YTD (vs. down -29.61% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -25.59% YTD (vs. down -23.00% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -21.83% YTD (vs. down -19.21% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up a measly .78% YTD (vs. up 3.65% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 9.20% YTD, was hit hard but managed to hold first place. STEVEL’s portfolio, up 1.15% YTD, remained in second place and JBOG’s portfolio, up 1.11% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday’s close, there were just 3 of the 58 Contest portfolios in the green, with only 16 portfolios beating the NBI and 14 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -25.86% and a median YTD loss of -35.06%, with 42 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: BIOD symbol change to ALBO, plus 1-30 reverse split following reverse merger.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Keep it together on this pre-election weekend biotechies.
May the best woman win!
And don’t forget it’s fall behind time this Sunday at 2:00 A.M.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
