In the remote event an elected President has done something truly awful, as Nixon did, in the prior election we have elected their Vice-President to become the new President. It's a system which has worked well for a long time and will continue to do so. This is why choosing a clearly unqualified Vice-President like Sarah Palin hurt John McCain's campaign so badly. While Palin helped generate donations and enthusiasm among a small base of people, for most Americans her potential to become President made the qualified candidate John McCain unsupportable. Behind Donald Trump lies President Mike Pence and his mission to sharply cut Medicare and Social Security benefits for seniors - a strong incentive for Republicans to impeach Trump. Behind Hillary Clinton lies President Tim Kaine who will provide continuity for Medicare and Social Security benefits for the elderly, a conservative progressive who would carry out the same policies without Hillary's baggage. As for a different issue, four years from now, after Putin experiences the full extent of pain which result from his emails and self-dealing secret bank account details being published he, and others with access to lavish state-funded hacking expertise, will be terribly disinclined to become involved in the next Presidential election. The US implemented a new response doctrine in 2014 to deal with this sort of problem, which has been successful with China and will become successful with Russia and other parties.
