I think the date the change of coverage started can be pinned down exactly, to three days before Christmas when Yardeni appeared on CNBC. At the end of that interview, during which you could see lightbulbs popping in the balloon above Bill Griffith's head, Griffith said, "That was Ed Yardeni, and he has a record of being right in his predictions." Very respectfully.

Patricia's mention of the electronic prison doors not working made me realize that we have some y2k entertainment in store: At this very moment, there are dozens of scriptwriters and wouldbe scriptwriters working on competing y2k doomsday scenarios for our viewing pleasure. My bet is that we see at least one such drama on TV in the not too distant future, followed by a panel discussion by assorted experts. Yardeni will be the hot ticket, but there will of course be panelists whose role is to sooth...

I wish tpro could afford to buy a primetime commercial spot!

P.S. I just read Cheryl's #349 on the research thread. It could be (will be, I'll bet!) used as a source for scriptwriters looking for crisis situations to dramatize. There are a lot of those ideas on the tpro and tpro research threads. Maybe somebody'll have a subtheme of the forgotten embedded chip...
