In an Aug. 2, 2010, email between Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her boss, the two try to work through the logistics of moving a secure phone from one location to another. “Ok I will [redacted] just fedex secure cell phone from dc,” writes Abedin, who had married then-Congressman Weiner only weeks earlier, on July 10. “Anthony leaving office to bring me to airport now so hopefully will make it just in time,” she added, an apparent reference to Weiner. Clinton, who was then secretary of state, responded, “Maybe one of Anthony’s trusted staff could deliver secure phone?” The details of the secure phone are not known — and it isn’t clear whether Weiner ever got his hands on the device. But the exchange shows that Clinton trusted Weiner — who would resign a year later amid revelations of his pervy online behavior — with a sensitive device. Last week, FBI Director James Comey notified Congress that new evidence had emerged in the Clinton email investigation. That new evidence was found on a computer owned by Weiner and apparently shared by his now-estranged wife.
