Art Ettlinger says why
In a news release in Stockwatch dated December 16 1997, Donner Minerals announced assay results
from drill hole 97-96 completed on the Donner-Northern Abitibi joint venture property in Labrador. The
assay interval of 15.7 metres grading 1.13% nickel, 0.78% copper, and 0.20% cobalt was the thickest
and most consistently mineralized intersection encountered on the South Voisey's Bay project. Hole
97-96 was approximately 200 metres southwest of drill hole 97-75, the first hole on the project to
encounter a potentially economic intersection.
The SVB project was originally conceived and assembled by Donner consultants and the idea sold to
Teck Corp in 1996. Teck's involvement is by providing financing to Donner they may earn a 50%
interest in any of Donner's interests in the South Voisey's Bay project. Teck is also the general
contractor for the project. The SVB project covers an area over 200,000 ha and is held by Donner
through a series of joint venture agreements with a number of junior explorers. Donner's interests in the
various joint ventures and projects range from 25% to 100%.
Regional and property exploration by Teck identified a large area underlain by gabbroic rocks similar to
that which host Inco's Voisey's Bay deposit. Geophysical surveys identified a number of target areas
for drilling. A total of 12,419 metres in 44 holes were completed in 1997 on a number of areas under
separate joint venture agreements. Magmatic sulphides were encountered in most of the areas drilled.
However it was only on the ground under joint venture with Northern Abitibi that sulphides of economic
interest were encountered. These types of deposits form as roughly horizontal layers within the intrusive
host thus the chance of identifying additional mineralization should be good.
Donner's interest in the Northern Abitibi option could be reduced to a 25% carried interest through to
production if Teck exercises its option, while Northern Abitibi must fully finance its 50% interest.
Northern Abitibi is approximately 32% owned by and shares common management with Golden Rule
Resources however this group provides no management or technical services to the project. Teck Corp
is the operator.
The discovery of potentially economic massive sulphides in the SVB project is significant. The scale of
the target area is such that the potential for large tonnage exists. Further success on this project could
result in the most exciting exploration play in Canada during 1998. For risk tolerant speculators we are
recommending Donner Minerals and Northern Abitibi Mining.
