I can relate to tax selling on a personal note. I was long early on APM, WDC, and QNTM. Took my lumps in the 30's and 20's on APM and WDC, and booked a large positive move on CTXS. At this point I felt "Gee I can buy more QNTM and own the sector leader" and I am off to the races.......well then the latest preannouncement and I have a bunch of loss in QNTM to join forces with my activity in the other sector members.
All my advisory said you have to book the losses against a large gain. I did not want to remove QNTM from my portfolio as I am a strong long term advocate. Solution.....Sold my entire position in my taxable account and after some shuffling bought 75% of my position back in one of my Tax deferred accounts. This activity does not endanger the 30 day rule according to my accountant (Suggest anyone who has an interest in this activity consult with expert opinion).
So Kevin sorry for the long response but I felt it would show my conviciton after a long facial beating to remain exposed to this company. I really feel most of the posturing is behind us and now we wait for the company to develop some earnings momentum after this most significant transition in their 2 primary business groups.
Question...on the product development side for this "STORAGE" company.......What is on the horizon? Optic? Where do we go from here? Jeff
