I hope this will be a lesson to all those who think they can ignore the popular sentiments forever...and be grateful that US is still a democracy, or there would have been heads rolling on the streets.

BTW, this is also partially Obama's fault for running on a platform of change and not delivering it.

Let's see if this becomes a blip on the screen or if it will usher a new set of candidates on both sides who will work to change the system.

I'll tell you what I told my own children. Firstly, the president has minimal power (save to embarrass, of course). Secondly, the country is mostly powered by the departments and bureaucrats who do the work of the government. Czar Nicholas II said something I will paraphrase for you- he said, "I do not rule Russia, 10,000 clerks do." Thirdly, the world is a big place and most of us can move. So cheer up- let this rather interesting development spur you on to more fully explore the world. That is what I will do. It's more important to be happy, than anything else- like is short. And even if the US elects a complete idiot, life still goes on for the rest of us, and we might as well have a good time.

We have a president-elect that's shown no abilities to do any aspect of the job he was elected to do, other than bullshit, which presidents are occasionally asked to do,. A president from which every word out of his mouth is as likely to be a lie as the truth.

What that leads to, we will have to wait and see. We live in 'interesting times', as the Chinese curse says.
