To All:
Look, anyone that thinks VVUS at these prices is a sure thing is hopelessly naive. There are a zillion things that can still go wrong with the company and the investment is frought with risk. In addition to the possibility of worse-than-expected results this quarter any number of delays could occur that would affect, say, the approval of the new plant (remember the little approval snafu with the first one?) or even hinder the product roll out in Europe. Just start using your imagination and don't think for a moment that "not much else can go wrong"; the shorts certainly do. In spite of these factors I'm still long, FWIW.

Additionally, certain people shake their heads in wonderment as they reason as follows: "Wow, a one quarter hit to revs. of 25% is responsible for a 70% decline in stock price? Something's funny here..." Well, that's not exactly why it's down- it's down because people think that the short fall might be worse, and more importantly if the company can't get their act together now (monumental task though that may be, granted) then what possibility is there for growth? Remember, that's why you're buying the company- a PER of 10 right now is outrageously attractive, but only if the growth rate and the earnings stream don't start to contract! And that's what many are obviously expecting. Yadda, yadda yadda....

Brad, you know how I feel about mgmt. They are weak at best! But hopefully they will learn from their past mistakes. Mgmt. needs to be more concerned with how Wall St. perceives them. This stock got crushed as a direct result of mgmt. misguiding Wall St. analysts with respect to time frames and earnings estimates.

As for the possibility of further bad news, I also agree that this exists. However, the current stock price is sooooooooo cheap that barring a nuclear explosion at Paco, IMO we are at or near the bottom. What counts now is not so much FY97 numbers, but what Mgmt. says about 98 on the conference call. I have heard that mgmt. will be having a due dili meeting with analysts at the new facility in late Jan. Also I have heard that Fortune magazine has contacted the company for a positive piece.

Still Long,

DB
