One positive thing that could happen is political implosion of both parties, and a reorganization.

For some time I have held the opinion that the U.S. would function better with a multi-party system. A centrist party arising out of the moderate wings of each party would avoid having to pander to the fringes of the two current parties.

I believe you are correct that it is possible that both parties will have some realignment.I also believe that you are correct that Trump is not really a Republican. He shrewdly understood that only the Republican base of the ignorant and the stupid would elect him.

There will be a lot of tension between the traditional Republican leadership and Trump. There will be tension between the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and its current leadership. I am hoping the DNC will resign in disgrace so we can start the rebuilding process soon.

There is no way to predict what Trump will do once in office. I doubt he even knows himself.
