If we had no electoral college then Trump would have to find a way to appeal to California and NY. The big states would get what they want at the expense of small states. And we would be in the crapper.
This is worth repeating. People say, "Oh if there was no electoral college Hillary would have won," or "Oh if Bernie didn't run Hillary would have won," etc. etc.

No, it just means that the campaigns would have been run differently. Without an electoral college, Clinton and Donald would not have focused on the "battleground" states like Florida and Ohio. And without a third party candidate, Hillary would have felt free to court the moderate vote and further alienate the left-wingers.

Coulda shoulda woulda.
