Ed,
The other part of the equation that no one seems to be mentioning is that this Asian dumping is in the low-end (IDE, EIDE)drive market. Not the SCSI, SCSI2 etc. higher end. This higher end is where WDC is migrating and inhaling (sorry Slick Willie) market share from Segate and others. Also this is where higher margins live. They're getting out of the penny candy and tootsie rolls and going into the Godiva Choclateer area and are being very successful so far.

Ed- But what if those 70% of US customers sell a lot of their products into ASIA? Be careful of that logic. I don't know the answer as I don't know who WDC's customers are.

If I recall correctly, Barron's a few weeks ago quoted someone from
WDC as saying that the Asian problem would have a mild positive
effect at least shorterm with regards to lower cost/expense for
continuing operations versus their sales which, as it has been
pointed out, are not directly in the Asian marketplace. Anyone see
this statement? I may still have that week's copy to go back and see
what exactly was said.
