This will distract the telcos from competing with @Home", telcos don't compete with ATHM,; they decided long ago that copper isn't a solution. Local and long distance issues have nothing to do with ATHM. WebTV carries content but MSFT's involvement is only the embedded software within the settop boxes or PCs. If you review this thread, you'll find from 600 onward a thorough discussion and analysis of alternative carriers. Bottom line: they never were a viable alternative.
