I was looking at a Science News, Vol 152, Dec. 20 & 27, 1997, in which there is a section devoted to internet sites they think their readers would find interesting.

I went to Thomas Legislative Information on the Internet,

htttp://thomas.loc.gov

and into their Quick Search window for searching the texts of bills of the 105th Congress, typed y2k, got 0, typed millennium, got 17 with none that I found concerning y2k, typed Year 2000, got 50...

Of this 50, only two that I found referred to our concern. (There was more interest in our participation in EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Germany.)

I'm pasting what I got when I clicked on Bill Summary for those two. Note the last line indicating Status of Floor Actions on the Moynihan bill introduced January 21, '97.

FIRST BILL:

S.1518

SPONSOR: Sen Bennett (introduced 11/10/97)

A bill to require publicly traded corporations to make specific disclosures in their initial
offering statements and quarterly reports regarding the ability of their computer systems
to operate after January 1, 2000.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SECOND BILL

SPONSOR: Sen Moynihan (introduced 01/21/97)

TITLE(S):

SHORT TITLE(S) AS INTRODUCED:

Commission on the Year 2000 Computer Problem Act

OFFICIAL TITLE AS INTRODUCED:

A bill to establish a bipartisan national commission to address the year 2000 computer
problem.

STATUS: Floor Actions

***NONE***

P.S. I see that the URL above didn't turn blue. But if you type it into your location window and press Enter, it does go there. Science News didn't include the www part...

Cheryl, today I had a opportunity to talk to a operating engineer who works at (runs) Three Mile Island. I asked him about the companys Y-2000 problems. I will never forget living through the possible hydrogen bubble explosion, to what in fact did turn into a partial meltdown, that THANK GOD. was contained. He said the company brought in a outside firm to work on their remediation two years ago. He was not involved with their work, but said the cost was astronomical,

Back then a Uncle in the family who worked at Three Mile Island called us, and said leave. Go far, go North (the winds) and don't stop till we get to Conneticut, The whole time he was urging us to go, the power company and the government was announcing we were all safe, it was under control. He said that was bullshit, they had no idea what was going to happen. They did not want to cause a panic.
