Sorry... Why would BA ONLY deploy a DLC solution if the INTERFERENCE is SOOOO great?

<..I'm surprised you want to hang the ENTIRE cost of the DLC solution
on the need for ADSL..>

I would hang SOME of the DLC costs on ADSL where voice service is fine and it is deployed FOR ADSL.

<..The RBOC's are migrating towards a DLC solution, which shortens the
loop lengths...>

Only when the DLC is deployed in the field. I wonder if any of our telco folk have ballpark stats on what percentage of existing DLCs are deployed at the CO? Since the original purpose of DLC was NOT to shorten the loop lengths, but to increase voice quality by going digital, and to make use of CO HDSL/nxT1 voice muxing, I'm guessing most DLCs are at the CO.

<..Ameritech hasn't selected a DLC solution YET . I'll provide you a URL in the future, once Ameritech announces their DLC vendorS...>

You might want to call Ameritech to clarify this. Like many RBOCs, Ameritech ALREADY has DLCs in it's loop, which it uses for voice muxing. And if you live in Ann Arbor and want ADSL from their recent launch with Microsoft, you CAN'T have it if one of their DLC units is anywhere in your CO's loop. I don't know who they use currently, maybe AFCI (who has integrated AWRE and 3COM's DSL)?

But I take it you are aware of maybe some future DLC business with Ameritech - perhaps with Lucent?

<..Lucent has 25 million SLC-96, SLC series 5 and SLC 2000 lines in the field TODAY...>

How many of these are deployed at a CO? And does the SLC-96 work with ADSL?

<..Why would BA ONLY deploy on a DLC solution if the INTERFENCE is SOOOO great? ..>

The DLC doesn't cause the interference. ADSL causes crosstalk wherever it is. If it is near other digital services, including DLC voice muxing, there is concern for interference.

<..You need to review why BA selected the CAP line code...>

Was the number of lines (over that 4 years) ever announced? I know guesstimates were floated in the 300K range over the 4 years, but has BA announced numbers yet?

And any insights (hal, anyone) on the possibility that DSC uses DMT (through Aware or Efficient Systems) with BA? The DSC/Efficient announcement came out first week in Dec. Wasn't that the same week that Seamens took sick leave? Just curious how definite the BA contract (however many lines) was to Westell (vs. to DSC).

One other thing, Bill (irrespective of my not taking accusations on my motives or honesty very graciously) you really have me pegged wrong.
Seems there is a significant VALUE in fully considering the downside of any position. It's how I operate, and I've been professionally investing for many years. IMO, and unfortunately - experience, once an investor stops regularly examining their positions critically (especially a small story stock), the risks increase dramatically.

I have always appreciated your posts, and it seemed the respect was mutual. By all means continue to take my critical posts as some personal affront if you must, but consider that there may be value in regular critical, even skeptical (in the realm of reason), evaluation. And as far as discussing in "public", pretend this is email. We really DON'T affect the stock price. And I have no agenda other than critical discussion.

Regards and good luck-

Steve
