I'm not going to argue that point. I consider myself a liberal thinker because I value an openness in considering issues, trends, and changing circumstance. Because of that, I reserve the right to change my mind on anything, given new information or changing circumstance. I enjoy an open discussion on the pros and cons of any idea or issue...a rare occurrence in the modern times of our polarized society.

However the "defanging" is a consequence of your own actions. When the party establishment promotes control, browbeating, and creation of hostility around issues, it makes freedom of expression dangerous for discussion. When it promotes polarization and requires obedience, it denies the invitation to people with open minds; something needed so that issue flaws can be flushed out without risk of banishment. The Democratic Party may have liberal ideology but it has also become a vessel of an oppression which forbids individual expression. This extremism is true for both major parties, but especially in recent times a sin of the Dems.
