>> In addition, The new Vapor! 40 MB mini-drive is already turning out to be dead-on-arrival, and now we
have word that there is a direct competitor to boot? Who is this mystery outfit? <<

I'm having almost as much trouble following this as I did with the he/she thing. Let's see....Click! is vapor and IOM embarrassed itself with its rude and disgraceful flaunting (marketing) of it at Comdex (a techtrash sleez fest). And, not only is Click! vapor, but DOA vapor because of a rumor of an unannounced, unknown product from an undisclosed company. Hmmm?

On top of that, I'm told I should open my mind and forget yesterday's extended conversation with the techgeek from a large firm whose response to my general question about his firm's removeable storage use would have made a great testimonial advertisement for IOM? A little over a year ago, it was standard bear breath that real companies would never even use IOM products.... let alone be well satisfied with them. Now that that prediction is obviously untrue, I should close my mind to the first hand accounts of a heavy Zip/Jaz user and take the word of an unkown poster in an open forum thread?

At least the mountain is getting some much needed snow today, and the hordes will be gone on Monday. For a simple minded ski bum, trying to follow the logic of the local thread bears is tougher than skiing the crap that has been passing for snow lately .

You are obviously a very astute investor.

And you, Sir, are a keen observer. Iomega's automated-response team does a masterful job of putting out fires while their quality assurance, manufacturing, customer support and software engineering thumbs continue to stumble around in the dark waving flame throwers. Their incendiary tactics show no sign of abatement, and in light of their own making, IOM looks to be one of the most lucrative prospects for short sellers in recent memory. Strong words from somebody long on IOM, but that will change come Monday.

Having said all that, IOM is still a useful company insofar as they serve as a bad example. That usefulness, such as it is, will come to an end as more and better companies learn from IOM's mistakes and introduce quality products. As connectivity and bandwidth increase, luggable storage takes on ever-decreasing importance and to the extent that IOM products are wholly unreliable, IOM is a particularly bad choice. A recent survey concluded that IOM could lose as much as two-thrids of its value.

Rocky

Astute investors do not worry if one company out of a thousand falls by the wayside and is totally trashed. It should have a very negligible effect on a mutual fund. FWIW, an astute investor owns individual stocks for the long or short term and doesn't rely on mutual fund madness.

I mean come on, mutual funds? How exciting! I personally want to wet my pants and puke on my desk when I lose 20% in a day and you just can't get that kind of excitement with a mutual fund.

Mutual funds, count me out. IOM count me in!!!

RE: Rod, Rocky has welcomed you to his fold......

But you may want to think before joining. Rocky's track record is not very good.

Here is one of his posts (#21021 4/23/97) about the future of IOM:

****************************************************************************
"... it seems as though Iomega's revenues have topped out and are sliding backwards. Just look at 3Q '96, 4Q '96, 1Q '97. The only thing saving them right now are improved margins because of disc sales. But, there is no evidence that drive sales are improving. If anything, they are steady or diminishing. The margin cuts from drive sales are hurting the bottom line. This is evidenced by KE's comments at the shareholder's conference concerning further price cuts. He said No Way. There is genuine reason to be worried right now if you are long. All of the explosive share price growth occurred last year, and IOM is still coming down from those lofty levels. The PE keeps growing smaller and smaller exactly like I said. Pretty soon, IOM will have a PE of 18-20."

Note:
Given Rocky's picture of near-term earnings, the PE of 18 to 20 was for 1997 earnings much lower than what has been reported.

*********************************************************************
His tune has been pretty much the same. since he has been here. Declaring that any one long IOM is ignoring the facts. It seems to me the exact oposite is true.

Rocky, stop ignoring the facts. Revenues are increasing and margings are improving. Earnings are growing and new products are coming -- Clik! will be great.

Later,

John
