You got it. The reality is that the electoral college elects the President. There was no way Trump was going to win the left coast and gain their electoral votes. So why waste time and money there or anywhere that he could not win electoral votes.. If the popular vote picked the President then the campaign would be run very different. Of course this would be true for both Parties.
