Evansville, IN -- The health of Tri-state residents is at risk due to the number of coal-burning plants in our region, according to experts who spoke at “Breaking the Silence: Coal’s Impact on Our Health,” an event hosted by the Sierra Club at Old National Events Plaza on Thursday.

Over 100 people attended the event, which was sponsored by New Venture Fund with support from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Featured speakers included Dr. Alan Lockwood, past president of Physicians for Social Responsibility and author of The Silent Epidemic: Coal and the Hidden Threat to Health, and Dr. Stephen Jay, emeritus professor of medicine and public health and past founding chair of the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, who researches climate change and air pollution.
