I agree with you that knowledge sits on the top of the shoulders of previous inventors. And I know that there were thousands of unsung heroes in the world of science. But what really was happening at its base, was the development of the mind. Once the human species started developing the mind in a logical and accurate manner with time frames, all of the sciences started to flower.

When people started writing stuff down it passed on to the next generation, precisely. That precisely, was very important. We see this because shortly after they started writing books in ancient Greece, 10% of it Athenians were literate. And out of that came the discussions of democracy and ethics and the plethora of scientific discoveries. They knew the earth was round and had calculated it to within 25 miles. The great library of Alexandria, that the barbarians burned down!

They got so far into their science, that one of the great ancient Greek logicians, was not understood again until the 1900s. My professor at the University in ancient Greece, used to say that the only thing that held the ancient Greeks back was that they had not mastered the inductive method. They were into deductive logic. And they were profound, if they had just survived and not been wiped out I'm sure the human species would be 1000 years ahead of where it is right now.

So first comes the written language, then people start to think, they learn from each other, the technology gets more sophisticated, people become more sophisticated when they learn about the technology and the ideas, and the society blossoms as a result.

That is the system that works and that made us as advanced as we are today nearing the human singularity.

<<Science and written language, is what allowed us to pinpoint all of the things necessary for having modern civilization

What you call science is the accumulation of knowledge generated by tinkerers largely bereft of accreditation. Packaged as science, or whatever, it can provide materials for further development. Still, most disruptive innovations still comes from experimentation by tinkerers who stumble on new ways to bust old boundaries; some from labs, much not.

Shame you can't understand that it was capitalism, and capitalism alone, that let us escape Hobbesian times.
