Well, "historical" doesn't have to be years and years ... it can sometimes be 2 or 3 Quarterlies, as well as any incisive or relevant news about the company's business developments, etc..

At the end of the day, IMO, you want to see as much of the Top Line Revenue getting to the Bottom Line. So when you start seeing deductions and/or costs reducing in ongoing Quarterlies, compared to previous ones, then the chances are good that you will see an accompanying upward move in the company's share price.

I prefer to see an upward price move accompanied by good and improving Financials, especially within the Income Statement.

There are those who will look at a company's book value and when it's far greater than its share price then they assume that the price will move up towards that book value, irrespective of whether or not the Financials reflect that. In my experience that doesn't always happen ...
