Could the "other sources" be the Market Makers? I believe they are the most likely source. It has already be proven that this stock was short and it makes perfect sense for the shorts to continue shorting. The more they short and drive the price down, the more the odds move in the MM favor. Their ultimate goal is to short the stock to zero so they don't have to cover. In the process if some they shake some certificates loose, well the better for them.
