Hi Ron,

Of course, there are charlatans and there are charlatans. And nowhere is this more true than in the so-called divination arts employing the likes of numerology and Tarot cards and astrology. But I believe that one should not pooh-pooh things we do not understand fully. The right attitude to adopt is one of suspended judgement.

When I was an adolescent I read about the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras who propounded that the universe was built according to numbers, and I also read about his "Harmony" or "Music of the Spheres" (planets). At that time, I did not pay much attention to it. Later on, when I studied advanced chemistry, physics and higher math and astronomy, I clearly saw there are 'constants' and regularities in nature. Some good examples are the speed of light, the acceleration due to gravity, the periods of rotation and revolution of planet Earth, the periodicity of the chemical elements in the Periodic Table, the Laws of chemical combination and, of course, the very fact that GOLD, SILVER and COPPER (coinage metals) are found in the same Group in the Periodic Table! Even the arrangements of parts of some plants (e.g., bracts of pine cones) are made according to the Fibonnaci Sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 .......) and this sequence was found useful not only in architecture but in the stockmarket!!! too! And so is that number called pi (pronounced as in pie) which is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its radius and which comes into play innumerable times in higher mathematics, advanced physics, engineering and statistics including calculation of odds for success in gambling and in the stockmarket. And, in music, only sounds of certain frequencies may be blended to produce harmonious chords. To be sure, ours is a world governed by numbers!

Not too long ago, lots of people tended to pooh-pooh or even condemn ESP phenomena and even the art and basis of acupuncture. However, due to an increased understanding as a result of education, apperception or gnosis, many folks are beginning to be more accepting of that which was denigrated before.

The alchemists in the days of yore sought to transmute base metals into gold. For many, that was a pipe dream. But we moderns know it is now achievable. But the energy and time required are so horrendous as to render such a venture highly prohibitive at this stage of our scientific advancement.
