We don't actually have that much conformity here. There were some nasty spats about Bernie versus Hillary. And I've taken grief for wanting Calexit (not that I think it's likely- but when you hate your country but love your state, what else have you got to hope for?) So conformity is probably less conforming in these places than you might think it is. It's just more conforming than if right and left were mixing- but I never found that all that valuable, since I could read what the right wing was thinking any time I wanted to. And if you want to find out what the right is thinking now, you need only peruse their websites- which I do. Takes very little time to do- since media outlets are so repetitive.
