To All: Not trying to be an idiot, but is there anywhere that I can talk to people about the stock/technicals/expected announcements. I can't take all the tech lingo. You know like MAs and Stochastics and stuff? Thank you.--Ron

<..maybe the answer lies somewhere in tweeking VDSL and MPEG2 just a little bit more. Unfortunately, a golden egg that no one will find soon, in my opinion...>

I don't know a whole lot about VDSL technology. I don't know if there is a linear continuum with ADSL, though I know there are similarities. Getting that ~10Mbps (range of 4-16Mbps for MPEG2) in longer reaches would be quite a trick though.

<..Over what medium?..>

Fiber and wireless. The NDA doesn't go into much technical detail (not that I could give it if it did <g>).

<..No offensebut in my opinion, you always seem like that 'never' guy in the back. :-) ..>

Well, I'm not from Missouri, but I do kinda lean in that direction. Maybe it's years in science where the approach is to assume the null and see what kind of probabilities that the null isn't justified. It has worked well for me in investing, anyway.

<..It's good to see you say its not a matter of IF for adsl. I tend to keep forgetting that one for some reason. I think most everyone agrees on that here...>

In my opinion, anyone who thinks ADSL won't get rolled out has their head buried. For ME, the critical questions are - how much, how soon and from whom. It may well work GREAT and people will be gobbling it up. Then again, it may not work that well over a lot of the plant, and telcos may have a heck of a time with it. So we'll see.

In the vein of a previous discussion of telco reliability/reputation, did anyone see this?:

"Pac Bell ISDN service in question"

from news.com

<..I get the feeling from your posts sometimes that adsl service does not exist yet and that it wont be available until 2010...>

Of course it exists, and has existed for a number of years.... in the minds and hearts of many hopeful SI posters <g>.

<...Do you think the people at TXN were complete idiots for buying a tiny co. right now with hardly any revenues? They did spend a lot of
money in cash for something that you think will never get anywhere..>

Well, I think they spent too MUCH, especially since they apparently haven't got Cioffi, et al., nailed down yet. But that's what business is about. Seeing the writing on the wall, they are making a big play for DSP, and they clearly see some pretty good potential, as do many of us (myself included).

Regards and Good luck-

Steve
