Ramsey, I am happy to report that even the direction in the US is getting better, we have passed the peak in ilicit drug usage by school kids, crime in the major cities has peaked in 1992 and is coming down in some places at a 30% rate (NY, LA and Chicago). The trend of our deficits is down, the trend of our iinterest arte is down. Unemplyment is at a 24 years low. Defense spending keeps declining as a pecentage of the budget and of course the GDP. Inflation last year was less than 2% (some say less than 1%). It is really not that bad and could even get better.

Let me ask you what would happen if we had a $200 billion budget surplus? I would wager that we will rapidly go into a recession if that was to happen. If the size of our total debt was to go to let say $4 trillion instead of the current $5 plus trillion within let say a five year period, we will have a worldwide depression.
