Brian,, just got in from Atlanta. Noticed a few gadgets that are coming out at the lower end to assist vendors getting into the sub-$700 PC market. The most noteworthy was a new Asus SP-97 motherboard that incorporates a video chip and SIS chipset and sells for $89 retail. It will take all socket 7 CPUs but does not have a slot for the Intel Video cassette. :>) Several shops had decent (expandable and upgradeable) systems for $699.

Brian,

Re: "That information seems to confirm my thought ..."

Here we go again with the theory that some Tier 1 vendors are taking all
the .25um 266mhz K6's ... the fact is that AMD has slipped their .25um
process introduction and "ramp-up". Pretty soon Petz will have to
"officailly agree" with my Intel versus AMD process assessments. Please
see:

exchange2000.com

"Thank you, Yousef, for your promise of 12/7/97:
... if AMD is truly shipping 266mhz & 300mhz notebooks in the next 1-2 months, I will be very impressed. Based on those facts, I would have to re-assess my statements on Intel versus AMD process technologies.

And yes, if there are neither 266 MHz nor 300 MHz AMD notebooks by then, I would have
to agree that Intel is still at least a half generation ahead in process technology.

Petz"

Make It So,
