Terrible stuff Elroy. Ordinary people without the cabin crew training knowing they are going to die do not follow the procedures that could have saved them.

The brace position makes sure the impact hit your arms but not your head which give you a chance to remain conscious, unbuckle free your head to breath and be alive till rescue crews come to the crash site. I guess there are two hits.
The first that breaks the place into

We read case where the plane crash landed and passengers went to get their overhead compartment luggage!!

Don't forget the company bean counters and corporate executives that insist on saving money by "right sizing" fuel fill-up because it costs money to fly fuel around.

If the pilots were in charge, I assure you they would have been carrying a much larger reserve.
