There is a trade-off here if IBM alliance occurs and it's highly
likely to happen. Jobs used to threaten Rhapsody will be ported to
Intel chips, then later he lowered his voice regarding this matter and
said in public Apple would stay with PowerPC at least another 2-3
years. I think he may use porting Rhapsody to Intel chips as a
bargain chip to negotiate with IBM, which result in IBM's giving up as
a cloner as well as technically and financially support for Rhapsody
provided that it only sits on PowerPC for at least a certain period of
time. The deal was done and both IBM and Apple are satisfied with
what they got in the deal.

On the other hand, I didn't rule out the possibility that IBM will
step in to takeover Apple since it was IBM's early intention in '91.
With which IBM could totally control when Rhapsody will be ported to
Intel chips with optimal benefits - substain PowerPC share as well as
penetrate into wider Intel market-based. If takeover is a case, then
Rhapsody has something that attracts IBM which I can't figure out, but
will give credits to orginial NeXT's capability.

Last time, Jobs used Microsoft card, while IBM card may be used in the
coming MacWorld Expo.
