How does this sound to you? This is a woman that lives on Vancouver Island in Canada that posts on SI.

She is not a liberal, just a normal working person.

I believe the British Columbia program is as good as there is in the Country. It is free to pensioners who also have their prescriptions subsidized.

not true.

health care benefits are free to all in all provinces
except B.C.

my husband and i are both retired, live in a remote
area and pay $135/month family rate for our benefits.
that said, i would not trade it for any other system.

Same person.

"not enough personal income to make a difference.
i'm going to look into our premiums.

we're on haida gwaii. medical services are somewhat
limited and we rely heavily on specialists coming in
every 3 to 6 months. otherwise it's off to prince rupert
or vancouver for simple procedures like ultra sounds or
stress tests. we have two hospitals on graham island,
one serving the north end and the other, the south with
lab and x-ray facilities in each, but more specialized
techs are not here.

medical travel costs run high. however, we chose to
live here and so must pay the price.

i agree with your viewpoint regarding revenue. makes
good sense.

You are so mis informed like many blind and biased Americans who never see any thing past their own front gate. In reallity Canada ranks higher in Health care than the US. But shamefully neither rank even in the top 25 in the World.

Canadian governments spend money on the people with subsidized medical and Education Instead of spending it on the military. Over 9% of the Canadian economy is healthcare and research laboratories.

Canadian discoveries are used world wide. such as the
Polio Vaccine,
AIDS drug 3TC used World wide ,
Mustard operation that saves the lives of Blue Babies.
Insulin which allows people to live with Type 1 diabetes .
Vaccine, NeisVac-C, which protects people of all ages against meningococcal meningitis,
The 2011 discovery of a treatment of Melanoma with 94% late stage cure rate.

Hardly a third world medical approach !

Canadian governments spend their money on the people with subsidized medical and Education Resulting in having the world's highest educated citizens. Over 51 % of Canadians have college and University degrees.

Fortunately for many Americans living close to the Border they come to Canada and are able to purchase drugs they cannot afford in their own country.

Again you show your lack of understanding in medicine manufacture. Generic drugs are the same formulas as the original they were copied from. They are simply produced after the patent protection term expires.

Example: Aspirin Vs ASA tablets.
Or Advil Vs Ibuprofin
Pfizer who produces penicillin, Themselves produce Pfizerpen & Pfizerpen-AS A generic copy of their own product sold without the patented branding.

Cheers
