God created all this because he wanted to prove he was better than the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. And a close runner up to the Tooth Fairy.

Answer: Such a "why" question must include reason and purpose, which produce meaning. Reason is usually coopted by Ivory Tower scientism, purpose is usually coopted by Ivory Tower religionism. At times where science and spirituality were aligned we saw great accomplishment, for example the age of Enlightenment or the Ottoman Empire. At times when science and spirituality were oppositional like the Dark Age when Spirituality shut down science or at times when material science tried to shut down spirituality advances stalled.

Ivory tower scientism denies creativity as do ivory tower religionists. Integration of science and spirituality produces quantum leaps in creativity and consequential advances in the evolution of science and humanity, viewed as measurable higher states moving closer to the ideal (form, archetype, absolute). This is when the actual experience of science and advancement occurs.

Unfortunately in modern times we are stifled by the oppositional Ivory tower forces. I am afraid we will see this opposition in response to your question, which as usual paralyzes advancement.

Question: If God created all that is, why did He do it? Any thoughts?

You ever played with model trains as a kid or youngster? For the same reason - maybe :)
