Having been out of touch for the last week, I haven't seen any good info on how PC sales went over the holidays. Has anyone come across any? Also, I would be curious whether people on this thread believe inventories have been reduced this quarter, and most importantly, whether it still appears that things will get worse before they get better.

I get an uncomfortable feeling that Quantum may actually be showing some production restraint (cutting back on a build plan they could clearly achieve to avoid adding to channel inventories and cutting back on the high end drives which would presumably have at least a small positve gross margin). On the other hand, I haven't heard of IBM smoking the peace pipe and Seagate is wearing war paint-no talk of restraint and various comments about price wars, how the industry has not channged, and two quarters of significant growth in desktop volumes. As for WDC, their volume reductions hardly seem voluntary. And Maxtor ramping like mad surely offsets any amount of restraint Quantum may be undertaking. Would be interested in others thoughts on this subject.

Hello Stitch,

You may be interested to know, that I have recently begun to use speech recognition software to do my "writing". Although the accuracy of the software is not yet completely satisfactory, I have high hopes that, after some training and perhaps an upgrade in my microphone and sound card, the accuracy will improve to an acceptable level.

I may have to upgrade my CPU as well. Um, and my hard disk! <gg>
