JAG,

Thanks for digging up the info. This raises a number of questions.
Why did S3 sell over 25% of their stock in UMC if UMC was supposedly going public in 98?
Did they need this cash for the CRUS or shareholder lawsuits?
I thought S3 was going to roll this investment into newer chip
technology, .25 and .18 micron?
Did S3 not need this capacity for their new chips?
Maybe S3 believes that the Asian crisis is to risky and wants to at
least get their original investment back?
The cc should be interesting this quarter.

Answer: S3 will buy back its stocks at bargain price. Watch for SIII to rise in price in the next few days.
