Mike,

In the SF Bay area, GTE offers analog and CDMA digital at 800MHZ, so a dual mode Q-phone would make a lot of sense here.

Also, with GTE as a regular analog provider, it is likely that their roaming agreements will be much more extensive than Sprint's, so your analog service when out of 800mhz CDMA range should be better than with Sprint.

Incidentally, my experience with Radioshack sales clerks in the Walnut Creek/Concord area hasn't been too bad. They were somewhat knowledgeable about the various Sprint phones available, provided the appropriate brochures, and had several models in stock, including the dual band model (QCP-2700) I wanted in stock for the first phone. Second purchase attempt, the store was out of stock, but looked up inventory on computer and directed me to another nearby Radioshack which had stock. My pet peeve is that the accessories (leather cases, handsfree kits, quickcharge cable for auto use) are not stocked. Also, the handsfree kits are overpriced at $395. A similar kit for an analog cellphone runs only a little over $100.

As to my multiple purchases of CDMA phones, I have bought three: two for gifts, and only one for myself. Lets hope it isn't habit forming! Is there a support group for CDMA wireless abuse yet?
